Ambassador
04:41
|
|||
The sun rises on Ambassador
and kisses all the Pointes
Wyandotte is not too far behind
It travels up the Rouge
just like it did in '67
like nothing happened and it doesn't mind
It dances right down Woodward
and Grand River for a while
playful in its daily ascent
it skips over the Southfield,
dodges cars on Telegraph
and winks at all the gridwork cement, and -
When it touches our treetops in autumn
heaven's glory seems ablaze all around
if you're seeking a more pleasant peninsula
Well, I say there isn't one to be found.
When the April showers patter
and the grey begins to scatter
and the tulips push their way through Holland's soil
Once again we feel the reason,
the logic of the season
the purpose giving meaning to our toil
And when the lakes begin to glisten
you just have to stop & listen
to the herons and the cranes alive in song
seems like every living creature
calls to us just like a preacher
revealing what the sun knew all along, that -
When it touches our treetops in autumn
heaven's glory seems ablaze all around
if you're seeking a more pleasant peninsula
Well, I say there isn't one to be found.
It isn't the technology...
It isn't the machinery...
It's more than the ecology...
and more than just the scenery...
The sun will show you...
The sun will show you...
When it touches our treetops in autumn
heaven's glory seems ablaze all around
if you're seeking a more pleasant peninsula
Well, I say there isn't one to be found.
If you're seeking a more pleasant peninsula...
look around.

Superior
04:05
|
|||
He sails down from Superior,
He glides from Grand Marais
He plops into our wishing well
and schools us how to play
He brings to mind Saint Nicholas,
projects Jethro Bodean
Two steps from Kevin Bacon, yeah -
unassuming and mean
yeah I mean mean, I mean MEAN, `cause -
When he plays I hear the Au Sable rushing on
When he plays I see the falls of Tahquamenon
When he plays I hear the robin begin to sing
When he plays I feel the teeth of the wolverine...
He slips into our domicile,
sips our Caribou brews
A quick flip through his repertoire
then with six strings he subdues
he subdues... he subdues…
When he plays I hear the Au Sable rushing on
When he plays I see the falls of Tahquamenon
When he plays I hear the robin begin to sing
When he plays I feel the teeth of the wolverine...
Saline winters, Ypsi flocks,
75 his driveway
Berkley Sundays, Plymouth rocks,
Romulus his runway
Jazz and country, ballads and blues,
you know you just can't lose
'cause when the man dares to choose,
beware: he WILL cut loose...
When he plays I hear the Au Sable rushing on
When he plays I see the falls of Tahquamenon
When he plays I hear the robin begin to sing
When he plays I feel the teeth of the wolverine...
Oh he's so superior...
Down from Lake Superior...
Makes us feel inferior...
Yeah, yeah - Superior...

Jimmy
04:22
|
|||
Jimmy was a boy she knew in high school
she liked him but it wasn't meant to be
She collided with an artist
and gave him everything at seventeen
Carson whirled her away to Traverse City
she raided daddy's wallet for the rent
but by the end of August
the money and the love had all been spent
and oh, oh the long fading of her faith
and oh, oh the innocence of yesterday
Rebecca settled somewhere south of Interlochen
Where the locals at the diner rarely tipped
she dreamed of Winnebagos
and giving the few souls she knew the slip
Maybe head to northern Minnesota
drive around a couple thousand lakes
and wish away the memories,
drown `em right along with her mistakes
and oh, oh the long fading of her faith
and oh, oh the innocence of yesterday
Then she thought of Jimmy - wondered `bout his life...
Was he still blonde and skinny? did he have a wife?
And when he said he loved her all those years ago
did he really mean it?
How could he know?
How could he know?
Meanwhile at the diner things were steady
food was free and she could pay the rent
but like her breakfast regulars
it seemed that life just came each day...
and went.

November Sky
03:37
|
|||
I sense the chill of autumn,
see the harvest moon glaring in the sky,
And I fear for the future,
if we'll even have one, you and I
Because the leaves are cracklin' underfoot
soon buried alive under the snow
November winds are whistling
"isn’t that the way that all things go..."
I feel the breath of angels
as they whisper everything will be alright
Still the days keep growing darker
as if there could be a never-ending night
But in my heart a fire burns
fueled by hope refusing to fade
And just as sure as midnight creeps
I know that there is bound to come a day
So if my faith is all I own
coupled with a kind of love that cannot die
I suppose that hope will be enough
to get me thru this cold November sky
I think that hope will be enough...
I hope that hope will be enough...
I believe that hope will be enough
to get me through this cold November sky.
